IV) in Verbindung mit »zu« u. einem andern Zeitwort in verschiedenen Beziehungen, a) = dürfen, können, vermögen etc., z.B. ich habe nichts zu schreiben, non od. nihil habeo, quod scribam (ich habe keinen Stoff, worüber ich schreiben könnte); non habeo quid scribam (ich weiß nicht, was ich schreiben soll): das hatte ich zu sagen, haec habui, quae dicerem (das war für mich vorhanden als Stoff, überden ich sprechen wollte); haec habui dicere (das war es, was ich zu sagen wußte): was hast du mir entgegenzusetzen? quid habes, quod mihi opponas?: ich habe mich über das Alter nicht zu beschweren, nihil habeo quod accusem senectutem: er hat sich nicht über uns zu beschweren, non est, cur nos incuset. – ihr habt wahrlich gut ermahnen (gut reden), bene hercule exhortamini. – b): = müssen, sollen.
